Domestic violence (DV) does not just happen at home. The impacts are felt in the workplace by those experiencing the abuse, those committing the abuse, by co-workers, supervisors, managers, clients and others. Bill C-65 amended the Canada Labour Code to protect employees from harassment and violence in federal workplaces, including the federally regulated private sector, the federal public service and parliamentary workplaces. Domestic violence is recognized as a hazard that can show up in the workplace.
CREVAWAC has collaborated with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and Federally Regulated Employers – Transportation and Communications (FETCO) (an employers’ association whose members collaborate on matters related to human resources and labour relations) to develop tools, policies, and online training programs to assist federally regulated organizations to provide supports in the workplace for workers who are impacted by domestic violence.
